Signs of a turbo problem
- Loss of power, or the engine dropping into limp mode.
- A whistling, whining or siren-like noise that’s louder than it used to be.
- Blue or grey smoke from the exhaust, or oil inside the intercooler pipes.
- A boost or check engine warning light.
- The engine using more oil than usual.
Not every turbo fault is the turbo
A split hose or cracked pipe leaking boost, a sticking wastegate or actuator, a faulty boost sensor, or a blocked air filter can all feel like a failing turbo. And when a turbo does fail, the cause is often oil: too little of it, or dirty oil. That cause has to be fixed before a new turbo goes on, or the new one fails too. So turbo work starts with proper diagnostics.
What we do
- Fault-finding: boost leaks, actuators, sensors and oil feed problems.
- Turbo replacement and fitment: TODO: do you rebuild turbos in-house, send them out for reconditioning, or fit new or reconditioned units? (owner to confirm)
- Turbo pipework: downpipes, intercooler and intake piping repaired or fabricated in stainless steel or aluminium. See also manifolds and downpipes.
- Petrol and diesel: turbo work on both, alongside our diesel repairs and servicing.
