Signs your exhaust needs attention
- It’s louder than usual, or there’s a blowing or ticking sound, especially when the engine is cold.
- Something rattles or knocks underneath the vehicle. It’s often a broken hanger or a loose heat shield.
- You can smell exhaust fumes inside the cabin. Have this checked straight away: exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide.
- The exhaust hangs low or scrapes over speed bumps.
- There’s visible rust, holes or soot marks around the joints.
What we repair
- Flex joints: the braided section that lets the exhaust move with the engine. When it cracks or blows, it’s usually loud.
- Cracked or rusted pipes: the damaged section is cut out and a new one welded in.
- Hangers and brackets: broken or missing mounts that leave the exhaust loose.
- Leaking joints: blowing joints between sections.
- Silencers and resonators: rusted, blown or rattling silencers replaced. For a different sound, see custom and performance exhausts.
Repair or replace?
If the damage is limited to one section, repairing that section is usually the cheaper option. If the system is rusted through in several places, replacing it, or just the rear section, can cost less in the long run. Once we’ve had a look, we’ll tell you which makes sense.
