What we weld in aluminium
TODO: typical aluminium jobs to list (owner to confirm), e.g. intercooler and intake piping, brackets, tanks, trailer or boat parts, cracked castings
Why aluminium is different
Aluminium draws heat away from the weld quickly, has a tough oxide layer on its surface and gives little warning before it melts. A sound weld needs clean preparation and a controlled TIG process. Aluminium also can’t be welded directly to steel, so parts that mix the two need a different way of joining them.
Repairing aluminium parts
Cracked or broken aluminium parts can often be repaired rather than replaced, depending on the alloy and the damage. Cast parts, and parts that have been soaked in oil or coolant, need extra preparation before welding. Send us a photo and we’ll let you know if it looks worth repairing, although some parts need to be seen in person.
Get in touch
Feel free to drop us a WhatsApp and see how we can help. A photo or drawing of the part, rough measurements and what it’s for all help. For a repair, a close-up of the crack or break is useful.
